Take a moment. Breathe. Think of the magical moment at the end of the publication journey when you hold your debut novel in your hands.

What does it look like?

Is it matte or glossy? Is it colourful or simple? How do you feel when you run your fingers down the cover of your book? What would like you like your readers to feel when they look at your book cover?

Welcome to yet another exciting milestone on your journey towards publication. Designing the book cover: the face that your book presents to the world. If you’re looking to self-publish on Amazon, the most common trim size for paperbacks in the U.S. is 6″ x 9″ (15.24 x 22.86 cm).

The Book Cover Design

A book cover captures the author’s vision, presents a mental picture of the contents inside the book and positions itself amongst other books in the genre. The goal of the cover is to pique the reader’s curiosity.

Books these days typically begin their journey as a thumbnail on the internet. It needs to look clear and distinctive even when it’s that tiny.

In this post, we will take you through the three most popular book cover designs.

At Mith Books, we are a community of authors that support other authors on their publication journey. Once we have an understanding of your preferences, we are available to work with you to execute your vision.

  1. Although we know that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but somewhere down the line we all do that. And so book cover is as important as the content. Plus, it gives the authors the “feel” when they hold the book for first time. Truly an interesting and informative post.
